We Move Together

Giveaway for disabled people in the US and Canada
We Move Together

I recently published an interview by Megan Linton with Kelly Fritsch, the co-author of We Move Together, a joyful new children’s book about disability community and culture. The book is co-authored by Anne McGuire and illustrated by Eduardo Trejos and now available from AK Press.

The co-authors have generously offered to give away 6 copies (e-book or hardcover) to any disabled person living in the US or Canada. Details below.

We Move Together: As eight children and a cat parade down the sidewalk, a red carpet appears, magically transforming those who move across it. The brown brick wall turns into a blue and purple night sky lit up with yellow stars. The cat becomes a ferocious tiger. One child grows wings. A power wheelchair becomes a chariot. A bicycle helmet becomes a tiara. One child is using their arm crutch to hold up a brilliant yellow banner which reads “We move together!” Illustration by Eduardo Trejos.

From the book’s website:

We Move Together is a bold and colourful exploration of all the ways that people navigate through the spaces around them and a celebration of the relationships we build along the way. We Move Together follows a mixed-ability group of kids as they creatively negotiate everyday barriers and find joy and connection in disability culture and community.
We Make Change: There is a big gathering of smiling people in the city, many of the people are visibly disabled. Some people are dancing with their wheelchairs. Some are blowing bubbles and playing drums. Two children hold a banner than reads “We’re in this together.” A Black child wears a helmet and a blue sweater that reads Black Lives Matter. Another child sits on the shoulders of an adult wearing a red shirt that says “deaf gain” and holding up a cellphone to show someone on the phone the crowd around them. Another child with crutches holds a sign that says “nothing about us without us” while another child has a sign that reads “access is love”. The text reads “Whether we’re by ourselves, or surrounded by many, our small movements can turn into big movements. We celebrate. We make change.” Illustration by Eduardo Trejos.
