Book giveaway: Out of Mind & Into Body

Another week, another awesome book giveaway! This time it’s from Ethel, a twice-yearly limited-edition, hand-made journal of writing and art and a micro-press specializing in handmade and hand-bound chapbooks and mini-books. 5 paperback copies of Out of Mind & Into Body by [ɥɐɹɐs] Cavar are available for you dear subscribers. Later on a free digital version can be found on their website.

Cover is square 7.5" x 7.5" yellow ochre color. It has a 3.5” stripe across the middle of half gold paper and half white honeycomb-looking handmade paper sewn side by side with a flap of gold paper that is closed with a button and thread closure. When the closure is opened, there is an image of a hand opening a chain of white cut-out-paper dolls. On top of the stripe is the title of the book printed in black ink OUT OF MIND AND INTO BODY. Below the stripe is the author’s name printed in black ink: Sarah is printed upside down and in brackets and then Cavar. The book is bound on the left side by a white zig-zag stitch.

About the book

Out of Mind & Into Body tears through the medicalized trappings of social embodiment with analytical precision. From examining the ways in which doctors pry through autistic minds to unraveling the feminine coding of a fainting couch, Cavar leaves no diagnostic harm left unquestioned. Readers, be warned: this is a book for the faint of heart and audaciously limp of wrist. With their third stunning chapbook release in under a year, Cavar asserts themselves as an incomparable force across genres and forms. “what does it mean when i stand naked revealing you, nothing.”

-Fox Auslander, lead poetry editor of Alien Literary Magazine.
